Sun-dance with an owl

Sundance 2014

I had the great opportunity to visit the Sundance film festival with my brother Enis (composer) who has a film in competition (Wetlands). So has his friend Noaz Deshe, who invited us to stay with him and a bunch of very cool film makers in the most beautiful house in Deer Valley. Jackpot!

After 3 days of watching movies, attending receptions brunches and parties I meet Eric with his owl Bubo on Main street. And of course I ask Eric to collaborate with me. The result of this encounter are two series'.The first series, a warm up in the morning shows film makers with Dylan the hawk and Bubo the owl in the beautiful landscapes of Park City. In the afternoon, we became already friends with Bubo and I am able to create a second series with amazing people and a lot of skin in front of a wall of snow and ice. Thanks to Eric (earthwings.org) for making this happen. It was an amazing experience to work with you and the animals and I hope this will become an annual exchange between the two of us and other amazing people!

Armin Dierolf

I am Armin Dierolf and i was born in Waiblingen, in the south of Germany. I am a berlin-based cinematographer and i work in fiction and documentary films all over the world. I came to Sundance with the film WHITE SHADOW and a lot of curiousity for what´s happening in the world of filmmaking. I am interested in radical  but responsible approaches in filmmaking and i think every film is a political act.

Why sundance? There is no greater artistic propulsion system than to spend quality time in a tiny mountain town with other great artists. And the magic of Sundance is found in the untamed energy and unexpected synchroncity of the festival--which means you never know where the night will take you... it might introduce you to the happiness of Bhutan, to the inspirational depths of the human iris, to the existential wisdom gleaned from keys locked in a car, down the slide of an ancient ice castle, or into a deep mountain crater with Adrian wearing a borrowed red speedo... you just never really really know...
